Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with my white anthurium peace lily lately, specifically trying to figure out its temperature limits. You know, like how cold can it really get before this thing starts throwing a fit?
First off, I did a little digging around. Turns out, these plants are originally from those tropical rainforest areas in America. Naturally, they love it warm. I read somewhere that 68-85°F (that’s 18-30°C) is like their sweet spot, especially during the day. They’re not fans of frost, obviously.

But I wanted to see for myself. So, I started by monitoring the temperature in my living room, where my peace lily lives. It’s usually around 70°F, which seems to be fine. Then, winter came, and things got interesting. I don’t have central heating, so I rely on a space heater. One day, I noticed the room temperature dropped to about 62°F, and my peace lily still looked okay. No drooping, no drama.
- Day 1: I gradually lowered the setting on the space heater each day.
- Day 3: The temperature dipped to 58°F, and I started seeing some changes. A few leaves turned a bit yellow at the edges.
- Day 5: We hit 55°F. The yellowing got worse, and I even spotted a couple of brown spots. Okay, time to crank up the heat a bit.
After this little experiment, I moved the peace lily to a slightly warmer spot, closer to the heater but not directly in front of it. I also made sure it wasn’t getting hit by any cold drafts from the window. It took a couple of weeks, but it bounced back. Most of the yellow leaves perked up, and the browning stopped spreading. Also, someone said that peace lilies don’t mind low light but will bloom better in bright, indirect light. So I tested this during winter.
My Findings
So, here’s the deal: It seems like my peace lily can handle temperatures down to around 60°F without too much trouble. But once it gets below that, especially around 55°F, it starts to show signs of stress, like yellowing and browning leaves. They can survive down to 40-55°F but it’s not recommended. I definitely wouldn’t push it any further. It’s all about finding that balance and keeping an eye on your plant. They’ll let you know if they’re unhappy!
Remember, I am just sharing my own experience here. Your mileage may vary depending on your specific plant and your home environment. But hopefully, my little temperature adventure gives you a better idea of what your white anthurium peace lily can handle.
