Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get some raised plant stands for a while now. My place is kinda small, and I really wanted to maximize the space I have, especially vertically. Plus, I just love the look of plants displayed at different heights. So, I finally decided to take action and build something myself.
First, I started by looking around online for some inspiration. There are so many options out there – different sizes, materials, styles, etc. It’s a bit overwhelming, to be honest. I saw some made of metal, some clear ones, and others that were multi-tiered. They all looked nice, but I knew I wanted something simple and sturdy, and maybe something I could make with my own hands for cheap.

Then I thought, “Why not try using recycled materials?” I had some old pallets lying around in my backyard, and a few cinder blocks that were just gathering dust. It seemed like a good way to save some money and be a bit eco-friendly. Plus, using pallets and cinder blocks would give it a cool, rustic look.
The actual building process was, well, a bit of a learning curve. I started by dismantling the pallets. That was tougher than I expected! But I eventually got all the wood planks separated. Then I cut the planks to the sizes I needed for the plant stands. I decided to make two different stands – a smaller one with just one level and a taller one with two levels. I measured out some spots, and then scraped about an inch of soil off the top.
Assembling the stands with the wood and cinder blocks was like putting together a giant, wooden puzzle. I used some wood glue and screws to hold the planks together and stacked the cinder blocks to create the base for the taller stand. Let me tell you, those cinder blocks are heavy! I definitely got a good workout that day. I placed some seeds in the planting area and tossed them gently back over the soil.
After a few hours of work, I finally finished! The stands looked pretty good, if I do say so myself. They were a bit rough around the edges, but that’s part of their charm. I immediately put some of my favorite plants on them – a mix of leafy greens and some colorful flowers. Now my place looks so much more lively and vibrant.
In the end, I’m really happy with how my raised plant stands turned out. They didn’t cost me much, I got to use recycled materials, and they really elevated the look of my indoor and outdoor space. If you’re thinking about getting some plant stands, I definitely recommend giving it a try, either buying or making it yourself. It’s a fun and rewarding project!
