Watering Succulents After Repotting: Get It Right! (Expert Advice For Healthy Growth)

Okay, so, I finally did it! I repotted my succulents, and boy, was it an experience. I’d been putting it off for weeks, maybe months, but those little guys were getting cramped in their old pots. It was time.

First things first, I gathered all my supplies. I made a trip to the local nursery and picked up some fresh, well-draining soil specifically for succulents. I also got some new pots that were just a bit bigger than the old ones. Nothing too drastic, you know? I don’t want to shock the little fellas.

Then, came the big day. I laid out some old newspapers on my balcony ’cause I knew this was gonna get messy. Gently, oh so gently, I removed each succulent from its old pot. I carefully brushed away the old soil from their roots. Some of the roots were a little tangled, so I took my time untangling them, trying not to break too many. They’re delicate, those roots.

Next, I placed a thin layer of the new soil at the bottom of each new pot. Then, I positioned each succulent in its new home and carefully filled in around the roots with more soil. I patted it down gently, just enough to make sure they were snug but not too tight.

Now, here’s where things get a little tricky – the watering. I know you’re supposed to water plants after repotting, but with succulents, it’s a bit different. They don’t like to sit in wet soil, especially after being moved around. I’d read somewhere that it’s best to wait a bit before watering them, to let the roots heal. Something about root rot if you water them too soon.

So, I decided to wait. I waited a whole week, to be exact. It was tough, I wanted to give them a drink, but I resisted. During that week, I kept a close eye on them, making sure they weren’t getting too crispy.

Finally, watering day arrived! I used a watering can with a long, thin spout so I could direct the water right to the base of each plant. When the soil was fully dry, I gave them each a good soak until water started to drain out the bottom of the pot.

  • Waited a week to avoid rot.
  • Used a watering can with a long spout.
  • Watered until the water drained out.

A Happy Ending

It’s been a few weeks now, and my succulents are thriving in their new pots! They’ve got more room to grow, and they seem much happier. I’m so glad I finally took the plunge and repotted them. It was a bit of work, but totally worth it to see these little guys doing so well.
