Watering Majesty Palm: How Often Should You Do It?

Okay, so, I’ve got this majesty palm, right? And let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a learning curve figuring out how to keep this big guy happy. I mean, it’s called “majesty” for a reason – it’s huge and needs its own space. Anyway, I wanted to share what I’ve been doing in terms of watering, ’cause that seems to be the trickiest part.

First off, I started by just guessing, you know? Like, “Oh, it looks a bit dry, better give it some water.” But that wasn’t really working. Sometimes I’d water it, and it would still look sad. Other times, I’d think it was fine, and then bam! Droopy leaves everywhere. So I started doing some digging online, trying to figure out what this palm actually needed.

Watering Majesty Palm: How Often Should You Do It?

Turns out, these palms are kinda thirsty. They like their soil to be moist, but not, like, soaking wet all the time. I found some stuff online saying to check the top inch of the soil. If it feels dry, then it’s time to water. But if it’s still damp, hold off.

So, I started doing that. I’d stick my finger in the soil, about an inch deep, every few days. And I gotta say, it made a big difference. When I felt the soil getting dry, I’d give it a good soak. Not just a little sprinkle, but a real deep watering until the water started coming out the bottom of the pot. My pot has holes in the bottom, so that helps to not drown it.

Here’s what I’ve been doing, in a nutshell:

  • Checking the soil: Every few days, I stick my finger in the soil up to the first knuckle.
  • Feeling for dryness: If it feels dry, it’s watering time. If it’s still damp, I wait.
  • Watering deeply: When I water, I really soak it until water drains out the bottom.
  • Being consistent: I try to keep a regular schedule, but also pay attention to how the plant looks.

I also read somewhere that these palms like a lot of light, so I’ve got mine near a sunny window. That seems to be helping too. I think they need that light to help them use up all that water I’m giving them.

Now, I’m no expert, but this routine seems to be working for me. It’s been a few weeks, and my majesty palm is looking a lot happier. The leaves are greener, and it’s even putting out some new growth. It’s not drooping as much, which is a huge relief.

Of course, every plant is different, and every home is different. What works for me might not work exactly the same for you. But hopefully, this gives you a starting point if you’re trying to figure out how to water your own majesty palm. Just remember to pay attention to your plant, feel the soil, and give it a good drink when it needs it. You got this!

Just don’t go too crazy with the water! I saw some stuff online about overwatering, and it doesn’t sound good. Yellow leaves, drooping, no good. Just like us, they need a balance, I guess. It’s all about finding that sweet spot. Happy planting!
