Okay, so the other day I had this idea to make a cute little watering can flower pot. I saw something similar on Pinterest and thought, “Hey, I can totally do that!” So I did, and I’m here to share how it all went down.
Gathering My Supplies
First things first, I needed a watering can. I didn’t have an old one lying around, so I grabbed a cheap plastic one from the dollar store. You know, the kind kids use in the sandbox? Perfect! Then, I picked up some potting soil and a few of my favorite small flowers – I went with some colorful pansies because they’re pretty hardy.

Prepping the Watering Can
The watering can was bright blue, which was fine, but I wanted something a little more… rustic. So, I grabbed some sandpaper and roughed up the surface a bit. This helped the paint stick better. I found some leftover white spray paint in the garage and gave the can a couple of coats. I made sure to do this outside because, you know, spray paint fumes.
- Sanded the watering can
- Sprayed two coats of white paint
- Let it dry completely (this was the hardest part – waiting!)
Adding the Flowers
Once the paint was completely dry (I waited a whole day, just to be sure), it was time for the fun part! I carefully filled the watering can with potting soil, leaving a little space at the top. Then, I gently took my pansies out of their little containers and arranged them in the watering can. I made sure to space them out a bit so they had room to grow.
I added soil in the watering can, then I put flowers into it.
The Finishing Touches
After the flowers were in, I gave them a good watering – using a regular watering can, ironically! I found a cute little spot on my porch for my new creation, and that was it! Seriously, it was so easy, and it looks adorable. My neighbor even stopped by to compliment it, which made me feel pretty good.
My Final Thoughts
It is super easy to make, and it looks adorable!I’m so happy when my neighbor said she likes it.

Overall, this project was a total win. It was cheap, easy, and the results are super cute. If you’re looking for a fun and simple way to add some charm to your garden or porch, I definitely recommend giving this a try. You won’t be disappointed!
