Okay, so today I wanted to figure out the best size for a watering can for my indoor plants. I’ve got a mix of little succulents and some bigger leafy guys, and I was tired of using a random cup or jug.
Figuring Out My Needs
First, I took stock of my plants. I have about 10 small pots and 3 medium-sized ones. Nothing huge, thankfully. I realized I didn’t want anything too massive that would take up a ton of space or be a pain to carry around when full.

The Experiment Begins
- I grabbed a few different containers I had around the house – a 1-liter water bottle, a 2-liter soda bottle, and a small pitcher that I think holds about 1.5 liters.
- I filled each one with water and started watering. The 1-liter bottle was okay for the small plants, but I had to refill it like a million times to get to everything. Super annoying.
- The 2-liter bottle was way too heavy and awkward. I almost drowned my poor little succulent. Definitely not ideal.
- The 1.5-liter pitcher felt the best. It wasn’t too heavy, and I could water most of my plants without refilling.
My Conclusion
Based on my highly scientific experiment (haha!), I decided that a watering can around 1.5 to 2 liters is the sweet spot for my indoor garden. It’s enough water to get the job done without being a total beast to carry around. I also think a longer spout is key to reach the soil with my leafy plants.
I went ahead and ordered a cute 1.8-liter watering can * has the long narrow spout so,It should arrive in next week, and I’m actually kind of excited to use it! Who knew I could get so into watering cans?
