Okay, so I’ve been growing this Wandering Jew plant for a while now, and I’ve noticed that temperature really makes a difference. I started this whole thing last spring, figured it was a good time to add some green to my place.
First Attempt

- I put the plant on my windowsill, thinking it would love the sunlight.
- But here’s the thing, my windowsill gets super hot during the day and pretty cold at night.
- At first, my Wandering Jew seemed fine, but then I started seeing the leaves turning a bit brown.
- I thought maybe it was a watering issue, so I adjusted that, but no luck.
Realization
Then it hit me – it’s probably the temperature swings! I did some digging online and found out these plants are kind of picky about temperature. They like it between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about 15 to 27 degrees Celsius. My windowsill was definitely not consistent with that.
Experimenting
So, I decided to play around with locations:
- Moved it to the living room: This was better. The temperature there is more stable, usually around 70 degrees.
- Checked for drafts: I realized there was a slight draft from the AC vent. Not good.
- Found a sweet spot: I finally placed it on a shelf away from windows and vents. It’s been there for a few weeks, and it’s thriving!
The leaves are vibrant, and it’s growing like crazy. It’s amazing what a difference the right temperature makes.
Monitoring
I even bought a cheap thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature in that area. Turns out, my living room stays pretty consistently within the ideal range for this plant. Who knew I’d become a plant temperature detective?
Adjustments
- Winter is coming: I know I’ll need to watch out for colder temperatures. I might need to move it again or find a way to keep that area warmer.
- Summer heat: I’m also thinking ahead to next summer. I might need to adjust its location to avoid it getting too hot.
This whole experience has taught me that even though plants can’t talk, they sure do communicate. Paying attention to the temperature has really helped me understand what my Wandering Jew needs. It’s been a cool learning process, and I’m excited to see how it continues to grow!
It’s not just about watering and sunlight. Temperature plays a huge role. So, if you’re growing a Wandering Jew, try to keep it in that sweet spot of 60-80F (15-27C), away from drafts and sudden temperature changes. You might be surprised at how much it loves that!
