Okay, so I wanted to figure out which US states are the most into scissors. Sounds kinda weird, I know, but I was curious! So, here’s how I went about it.
My Little Experiment
First, I fired up my computer. My initial thought was, “How am I even going to measure this?” Then it hit me: Google Trends! It’s perfect for seeing what people are searching for.

So, I headed over to Google Trends. My plan was simple: I typed in “scissors” and set the location to the United States. Then, I changed the time range to see some yearly data, just to get a broader view.
Google Trends then did its thing and showed me a map of the US. The states were colored differently based on how popular the “scissors” search term was. I could also see a list, ranking the states from most to least interested.
I started to make my note, I jotted down the top 5 states.
I thought, “Maybe there’s a pattern here?” It could be related to crafting, school supplies, or who knows what else.
I decided to refine it a bit. I added some related search terms, like “hair scissors”, “craft scissors”, and “sewing scissors,”.

I played around with the data. I checked out different time frames, compared a few states side-by-side,and see any interesting spikes or trends.
After all that, I had a pretty good idea of which states are the most “scissor-happy,” at least according to Google searches. It was a fun little dive into data, and it definitely satisfied my curiosity!
