Okay, so my friend Sarah just bought her first house! Super exciting, right? And of course, I wanted to get her a housewarming gift. But I didn’t want to get her just anything. I wanted something that would last, something that would add life to her new space. So, I went with plants!
First, I hit up my local nursery. I figured they’d have the best selection and advice. I wandered around for a bit, feeling a little overwhelmed, to be honest. There were SO many options!

I flagged down one of the workers, a nice lady with dirt under her fingernails (a good sign, I thought!). I told her I was looking for housewarming gifts and she immediately started showing me some popular choices.
My Plant Selection Process:
- Snake Plant: The nursery lady said these were super easy to care for, almost impossible to kill. Perfect for a new homeowner who might be busy with, you know, unpacking and stuff.
- ZZ Plant: Another low-maintenance option, she explained. It can tolerate low light, which is great because I don’t know how sunny Sarah’s new place is.
- Monstera Deliciosa: Okay, this one is a little more finicky, but I couldn’t resist! It’s just so beautiful and trendy. I figured Sarah would appreciate the “wow” factor.
- Pothos: Finally, the “easy-peasy” plant. The worker told me that this one can tolerate literally everything, from low light and little water, to lots of light and frequent waterings.
I ended up getting a small snake plant and a pothos. I figured that was a good mix – one super easy one, and another slightly more challenging but totally manageable one, plus it’s easy to grow.
Then came the fun part – potting! I picked out some cute, simple pots at the nursery, nothing too flashy. I wanted the plants to be the stars of the show. I grabbed some potting soil and got to work.
I carefully transplanted each plant into its new pot, making sure to give them enough room to grow. I added a little bit of water and voila! Ready to go.
I dropped off the plants at Sarah’s new place yesterday, and she loved them! She said they were the perfect touch to make her house feel more like a home. Mission accomplished!
So, yeah, that’s my plant-gifting adventure. If you’re looking for a housewarming gift, I definitely recommend going the plant route. It’s thoughtful, practical, and adds a little bit of green goodness to any space.
