Today, I wanted to share my recent project of building a modern plant stand. I’ve always loved having plants around the house, but I wanted something stylish and sturdy to display them on.
First, I looked around for some inspiration. I checked out a few stores and browsed through a bunch of pictures online. I saw some cool designs, like adjustable stands and even rattan ones, but they were either too pricey or just not exactly what I was looking for.

So, I decided to make my own! I figured it would be a fun project and I could customize it to fit my space perfectly. I started by sketching out a few ideas. I wanted something simple and clean, with multiple tiers to hold different sized plants. I love simple designs and think multi-tiered is great for an office or living space.
Once I had a design I liked, I headed to the hardware store to grab some materials. I opted for some durable, waterproof metal for the frame and MDF boards for the shelves. I like that those materials are pretty easy to work with.
The first thing I did was measure and cut the metal pieces according to my sketch. Then, I welded them together to form the frame of the stand. It was a bit tricky, but I managed to get it done. I took some time to file them to make them smooth.
Next, I cut the MDF boards to size and sanded them down to make sure they were nice and smooth. I painted them with a couple of coats of white paint to match the aesthetic I was going for. I also added a layer of sealant to protect them from water damage. It is quite important, you know.
After the paint dried, I attached the shelves to the metal frame using screws. I made sure everything was level and secure. And that’s pretty much it!
- Measured and cut metal pieces
- Welded pieces to form the frame
- Cut and sanded MDF boards
- Painted and sealed the shelves
- Attached shelves to the frame
My modern plant stand was finally finished! I was really happy with how it turned out. It’s exactly what I had envisioned, and it looks great in my living room. Now I have a stylish and functional way to display all my favorite plants.
This project was a lot of fun, and I learned a few things along the way. If you’re thinking about making your own plant stand, I say go for it! It’s a rewarding experience, and you’ll end up with a unique piece that you can be proud of.
