Repotting Matt? Dont Make These Common Mistakes,do that.

Okay, so today was repotting day for Matt, my snake plant. I’ve been putting it off, but he was seriously bursting out of his old pot. You know, roots poking out the bottom, the whole deal.

First, I gathered my supplies. I needed:

Repotting Matt? Dont Make These Common Mistakes,do that.
  • A new pot (slightly bigger than the old one)
  • Some fresh potting mix (I used a cactus/succulent blend)
  • A trowel (or just my hands, honestly)
  • Gloves (optional, but I’m messy)
  • Water! Cant’t miss it.

Let’s get our hands dirty!

I put on my gloves and gently tipped the old pot on its side. Matt was pretty stuck, so I had to squeeze the pot a bit and wiggle him out. It took some coaxing, but he finally popped free. His roots were a tangled mess!

I loosened the root ball a bit with my fingers, teasing out some of the really long, circling ones. I didn’t go crazy, just enough so they wouldn’t be all knotted up in the new pot.

Then, I put a layer of the new potting mix in the bottom of the new pot. I placed Matt on top, making sure he was centered, and then started filling in around the sides with more soil. I patted it down gently, but not too hard – you want the roots to have some room to breathe.

Once he was all settled in, I gave him a good watering. I let the water drain out the bottom, making sure he wasn’t sitting in a puddle.

And that’s it! Matt’s got a new home, and hopefully, he’ll be much happier. He looks so much better already. Now I just need to find a good spot for him with plenty of light. It is a good day!
