Okay, folks, let’s talk about repotting my aloe vera. I noticed it was looking a little sad and cramped in its old pot, so I figured it was time for an upgrade.
Getting Started
First, I gathered my supplies. You don’t need much, really:

- A new pot (just a bit bigger than the old one, with drainage holes – super important!)
- Some well-draining potting mix. I used a cactus/succulent mix.
- A trowel or small shovel (or just use your hands, honestly).
- My sad-looking aloe vera, of course.
The Dirty Work
I started by gently squeezing the sides of the old pot. This aloe, it had been in there a while, so the soil was packed in tight. I gave it a few good taps on the bottom, and it finally loosened up. I carefully pulled the aloe out, trying not to break too many roots.
Next, I shook off the old soil from the roots. Wow, there were a lot of roots! I could see why it needed a bigger pot. It’s like when you outgrow your shoes, you know?
Then, I put some fresh potting mix in the bottom of the new pot. Just enough so the aloe would sit at the right height. Not too high, not too low.
I carefully placed the aloe in the new pot and started filling in the sides with more potting mix. I patted it down gently, making sure the aloe was nice and secure. Don’t pack it too tight, though – the roots need room to breathe.
Finishing Up
Finally, I gave it a good watering. I watched the water drain out the bottom, which is what you want. That means the soil is draining well and the aloe won’t be sitting in soggy soil (which they hate).
And that’s it! My aloe looks much happier already. It’s got room to grow now. I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and make sure it’s adjusting well to its new home. I’m hoping it’ll get bigger and stronger.
