Okay, guys, let’s talk about my little purple velvet plant adventure.
So, I got this purple velvet plant a while back. It looked so cool with those fuzzy, purple leaves. I was stoked! First thing I did was find a cute pot for it. I read somewhere that these plants don’t like sitting in water, so I made sure the pot had good drainage holes.

Next up, the soil. I didn’t want to mess this up, so I mixed some regular potting soil with peat moss and perlite. I just eyeballed the amounts – it’s not rocket science! I wanted something that would drain well but still hold a bit of moisture. The plant seemed to like it, so I guess I did okay.
Then came the tricky part – figuring out where to put it. I knew it needed light, but not too much. I tried a few different spots in my living room. Finally, I found a place near a window where it got bright, indirect light. It’s been there ever since, and it’s thriving. No burned leaves, so that’s a win!
- One time, I noticed some tiny white bugs on the leaves. Ugh, pests! I freaked out a little, but then I just wiped the leaves down with a damp cloth. I also sprayed it with some soapy water, just in case. It seemed to do the trick, and the bugs haven’t come back. Phew!
Watering
Watering was a bit of a learning curve. I didn’t want to overwater it, but I also didn’t want it to dry out completely. I started by watering it once a week and checking the soil with my finger. If it felt dry about an inch down, I’d give it a good soak. If it was still damp, I’d wait a bit longer. I also made sure to empty the saucer under the pot so it wouldn’t sit in water. This seemed to work, and my plant has been doing great.
Dealing with Pests
Honestly, taking care of this purple velvet plant hasn’t been too hard. It’s been a fun little project, and it’s so rewarding to see it grow and look all vibrant and healthy. My plant is now big and lush, and those purple leaves are still as fuzzy and cool as ever. I even took some cuttings and started new plants. It’s like a little purple velvet plant family now!
I hope my experience with my purple velvet plant gives you some courage to try taking care of one yourself. Remember, I started out as a total newbie, so if I can do it, you can too!
