Okay, here’s my blog post about making a wooden pizza shovel, written in the style you requested:
So, I decided I needed a pizza shovel. Not just any pizza shovel, but a wooden one. I’d been using a metal one, and honestly, it just felt… cold. Plus, I like making stuff. So, wooden pizza shovel it was!

First thing I did was grab some wood. I had a nice piece of hardwood leftover from another project – I think it was maple? Something like that. Anyway, it was already pretty flat, which saved me some work.
Then I sketched out a basic shape on the wood. Just a big, kinda rounded rectangle with a handle. Nothing fancy, I’m no artist. I made sure it was big enough for a decent-sized pizza, you know, the kind you actually want to eat.
Next up, I fired up my jigsaw. This was the fun part. I carefully cut along the lines I’d drawn, trying to keep it as smooth as possible. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, that’s part of the charm, right? It shows it’s handmade.
- Sanding, sanding, and more sanding. I started with some rough sandpaper to get rid of any splinters and round off the edges.
- Then I used finer and finer sandpaper until the whole thing was super smooth. This took a while, but it’s important. You don’t want a rough pizza shovel scraping up your pizza stone.
- I even sanded the handle extra smooth so it felt good in my hand.
Once it was all sanded, I wiped it down with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust. It was that the shape I wanted.
Finally, I rubbed in some food-safe mineral * helps protect the wood and keeps it from drying out. I let that soak in for a bit, then wiped off the excess.
The Finished Product
And there it was! My very own, handmade wooden pizza shovel. It’s not perfect, but I made it, and it works great. Pizza slides right off it onto the stone, no problem. Plus, it looks way cooler than that old metal one.

It is very nice to have it!
