Orchid Bark Soil for Sale: Where to Find the Best Quality
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, let me tell you about my little adventure with orchid bark soil. You see, I’ve got these beautiful Phalaenopsis orchids, and I wanted to give them the best home possible. So, I started digging into what kind of soil they like.

First, I learned that orchids are epiphytes, which means they don’t need regular soil. They like to grow on things like wood bark. I thought, “Okay, that’s interesting.” So, I went out and got myself a bag of this premium orchid bark. It’s basically composted pine bark and perlite.

Orchid Bark Soil for Sale: Where to Find the Best Quality

When I got home, I grabbed one of my orchids that needed repotting. I carefully removed it from its old pot and gently cleaned off the roots. Then, I took some of the new orchid bark and put it in the bottom of a new pot. I placed the orchid on top and carefully filled in around the roots with more bark. I made sure not to pack it too tight, you know, so the roots could breathe.

I also learned that there are different sizes of bark. For my Phalaenopsis, I used a medium-sized bark, about 1-1.5 cm. I guess if you have different types of orchids, like Oncidiums, you might want to use smaller bark. It’s all about what your orchid likes, right?

After I finished repotting, I watered the orchid thoroughly, letting the water drain out completely. I noticed that the bark helps with drainage and aeration, which is great for orchids because they don’t like to sit in water.

Here’s a quick rundown of what I did:

  • Got some premium orchid bark (composted pine bark and perlite).
  • Removed the orchid from its old pot and cleaned the roots.
  • Placed some bark in the bottom of a new pot.
  • Put the orchid on top and filled in around the roots with more bark.
  • Watered thoroughly and let it drain.

Honestly, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. And my orchids seem to be pretty happy in their new bark soil. They’re thriving, and I’m just a proud orchid parent watching them grow. I guess sometimes the simplest things make all the difference. Give orchid bark a try, you might be surprised how much your orchids love it!
