Okay, so I wanted to make a flowerpot, you know, the kind that looks like it’s made out of concrete, but not super heavy. I saw some cool ones online, but I thought, “Hey, I can probably make that myself!”
Getting Started
First, I needed some molds. I found these plastic bowls at the dollar store – one big, one smaller – perfect! The idea was to put the smaller bowl inside the big one, fill the space in between with concrete, and boom, flowerpot!

Mixing the Concrete
Next up, the messy part. I grabbed a bag of quick-setting concrete mix from the hardware store. I followed the instructions on the bag, which was basically just adding water until it looked like thick pancake batter. It’s important to wear gloves and a mask for this part, because concrete dust is nasty.
Pouring and Praying
I sprayed the inside of the big bowl and the outside of the small bowl with some cooking spray. I figure it help the concrete release easy. Then, I poured some concrete into the big bowl, set the smaller bowl inside, and filled the rest of the space with more concrete. I made sure to tap the sides to get rid of any air bubbles.
The Waiting Game
This was the hardest part. I had to wait for the concrete to set. I was so impatient so i had to keep myself busy! The bag said it would take a few hours, but I left it overnight just to be sure.
The Big Reveal!
The next morning, I carefully removed the inner bowl. Then, with a little bit of wiggling, I popped the concrete form out of the bigger bowl. And there it was…my very own DIY flowerpot! It wasn’t perfect, a little rough around the edges, but I was super proud.
Finishing Touches
I used some sandpaper to smooth out any sharp edges. It looks pretty good! It’s got that cool, industrial vibe I was going for. All I need to add is the plant!
Overall, this was a fun and pretty easy project. I totaly made a mess, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
