My DIY Modern Plant Pot Stand Adventure
So, I’ve been wanting to spice up my living room, and I thought a cool, modern plant stand would do the trick. I looked around online, but everything was either too expensive or just not my style. That’s when I decided, “Hey, I’ll just make one myself!”
First things first, I needed a plan. I sketched out a few ideas on a napkin – nothing fancy, just some basic shapes. I wanted something simple, with clean lines, you know? Kind of like a mid-century modern vibe.
Next up, materials. I hit up my local hardware store and grabbed some wood – I went with pine because it’s cheap and easy to work with. Also picked up some wood screws, wood glue, sandpaper, and a can of stain. I already had a saw and a drill at home, so I was good to go on the tools front.

The building process was… an adventure. I started by cutting the wood pieces according to my super-scientific napkin sketch. Let’s just say my measurements weren’t always perfect, but hey, that’s part of the charm, right? I used the saw to cut the legs and the supports for the pot.
Then came the assembly. I used wood glue and screws to attach the legs to the supports. I’m no carpenter, so things got a little wobbly at times. I learned that clamps are your best friend when you’re gluing wood together. They keep everything nice and tight while the glue dries. A hard lesson, but live and learn!
Once the glue was dry, it was time for sanding. This part took a while, but it’s important! I started with coarse sandpaper to smooth out the rough edges and then moved to finer grits to get a nice, smooth finish. My arms definitely got a workout!
Finally, the staining! This is where the magic happens. I applied a coat of dark walnut stain, let it sit for a bit, and then wiped off the excess. The wood grain really popped, and it started to look like a real piece of furniture! I did a couple of coats to get the color I wanted.
And… that’s it! My very own, handmade, slightly imperfect, but totally awesome modern plant pot stand. It’s not perfect, but I made it, and that’s what matters. It’s now proudly displaying my favorite snake plant, and it adds a nice touch to my living room. Plus, I saved a bunch of money by doing it myself!
