Okay, so I’ve been wanting a cute little watering can for my indoor plants for ages. Those big plastic ones are just overkill for my little succulents and herbs, you know? I saw this adorable mini galvanized watering can online and thought, “I can totally make that!”
First, I gathered my materials. I found a small, plain galvanized metal bucket at the craft store – it was actually meant to be a party favor holder, but it was the perfect size. Then, I needed a spout. I rummaged through my junk drawer (we all have one, right?) and found an old, small funnel. It was plastic, but I figured I could make it work.

The Fun Part: Putting It Together
I started by figuring out where I wanted the spout to go. I held the funnel up to the side of the bucket and eyeballed it until it looked right. Then, I marked the spot with a Sharpie.
Next, I needed to make a hole for the spout. This was a little tricky. I don’t have, like, fancy metalworking tools or anything. So, I very carefully used a hammer and a large nail to punch a hole. It wasn’t pretty, but it did the job. I made sure the hole was just big enough for the narrow end of the funnel to fit snugly.
Then, I inserted the funnel into the hole. It was a tight fit, which was good! To make sure it was really secure and wouldn’t leak, I used some heavy-duty waterproof adhesive around the base of the funnel, both inside and outside the bucket. I let that dry completely – patience is key, people!
The Finishing Touches (and a Little Oops!)
- I wanted to give it a more “finished” look, so I sanded down any rough edges around the hole I’d made.
- The plastic funnel was bright blue which is not I want, and I decided to give the whole thing a coat of spray paint. I chose a nice, matte gray color that I thought looked rustic and charming.
- I applied a few light coats, letting each coat dry before adding the next.
- This is where I had a minor mishap. Some of the paint dripped inside the bucket, and I didn’t notice until it was too late. So, word to the wise: stuff some paper towels inside the bucket before you spray paint!
But overall, I’m super happy with how it turned out! It’s the perfect size for my indoor plants, and it looks way cuter than those bulky plastic watering cans. Plus, I made it myself, which always feels good. It’s not perfect, but it’s perfectly mine. And it waters my plants just fine, which is the whole point, right?
