Okay, so I finally decided to get my hands dirty and plant a lavender tree. I’ve always loved the smell, and I figured, why not try growing my own? I started by doing some research, watched some vids, cause, you know, gotta know what I’m getting myself into.
Getting Started
First things first, I went to my local garden store, and picked up a small lavender plant. I chose a variety that’s supposed to do well in my area, and it was a pretty good size, so I got that.

Choosing the Right Spot
Next up, I had to find a spot where it would get sun, and I mean a lot of sun. Lavender loves basking, like a cat on a sunny windowsill. So, I picked a spot in my garden that gets full sun for most of the day.
Planting Process
Preparing the Soil:
- I dug a hole, nothing fancy, just big enough to fit the plant’s roots.
- I made sure the soil was loose and I removed the stones, so the roots could breathe, I think.
Planting the Lavender:
- I gently took the lavender out of its pot.
- Placed it in the hole, making sure the top of the root ball was level with the ground.
- Then, I filled the hole back in with soil, patted it down, make it a little bit firm.
Watering and Caring
Watering
So, the first watering was important. I gave it a good soak, making sure the water got down to the roots. I learned that overwatering is a big no-no with lavender, they hate wet feet, so I’ve been careful not to water it too much since then.
Pruning

After the first season, when it started to look a bit scraggly, I pruned it back. I just snipped off the faded flowers and a bit of the stem, to give it more energy.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that my lavender will be very good, I have watered, Pruned. Hope it will bloom!
