Alright, let me tell you about this ‘Soil King Big Roots’ thing I tried out recently. My plants, especially the ones in pots, just weren’t taking off like I wanted them to. Roots seemed weak whenever I had to transplant anything. Heard about this stuff, figured I’d give it a shot.
Getting Started with It
So, I got a bag of this ‘Soil King Big Roots’. Didn’t look like anything too special at first glance, kinda like rich compost mixed with some other bits and pieces. No weird smell or anything. The instructions were pretty basic, just mix it into your existing soil or use it when potting up.

I decided to test it on a few things:
- Some young tomato plants I was moving into bigger containers.
- A couple of pepper plants that looked a bit stalled, not really growing.
- One sad-looking basil plant I almost gave up on.
For the tomatoes and peppers, I mixed a good few handfuls into the new potting soil. Probably like, maybe one part ‘Soil King’ to four or five parts regular potting mix. Didn’t measure exactly, just eyeballed it. For the basil, I carefully worked some into the top layer of its existing pot, trying not to disturb the roots too much.
The Waiting and Watching
Then came the waiting part. Just watered them like normal, kept an eye on things. This was over maybe four, five weeks. Honestly, looking at the top growth, I didn’t see a massive, sudden change. The tomatoes grew, yeah, but they would have anyway. The peppers perked up a little maybe? The basil definitely looked a bit greener, less droopy. But nothing that screamed ‘miracle product’ from the surface.
Checking Under the Hood – The Roots
The real test was gonna be looking at the roots, right? That’s what the name promised. So, after about five weeks, I decided it was time to check one of the tomato plants. I gently eased it out of its pot.
And wow. Seriously, the difference was noticeable. Compared to how my transplants usually look, this root ball was packed. Way more fine, white root hairs everywhere. The main roots seemed thicker too, more robust. It just looked like a really healthy, dense root system. It held the soil together really well when I lifted it.
I didn’t want to disturb the peppers too much, but I carefully scraped away some topsoil on one. I could see more white root tips near the surface than I expected. Even the basil, when I eventually repotted it properly a bit later, seemed to have a better network of roots than before I added the stuff.
So, What’s the Verdict?
Look, I’m always a bit skeptical of products with grand names like ‘Soil King’. But based on what I saw when I actually looked at the roots? It definitely seemed to help. The roots genuinely looked bigger, healthier, and more numerous on the plants where I used it. It wasn’t some overnight magic potion that made my plants double in size, but the foundation, the root system, was clearly improved.

I think strong roots are super important, helps the plants take up water and nutrients better, makes them tougher. So yeah, I was pretty pleased with the results. I’ll probably keep using it, especially when potting up young plants or trying to give struggling ones a bit of a boost from the ground down. It did what it said on the tin: encouraged bigger roots.
