So, I decided to get my hands dirty and create a little succulent garden. I’ve always loved how these little guys look, and I figured, why not try to put a bunch of them together? I’m calling it my “Succulent Mix Plants” project, totally original, I know.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to gather my supplies. I hit up the local garden center – you know, the one with the overly enthusiastic employees? Yeah, that one.

- Succulents: Obviously. I grabbed a variety of shapes and sizes. Some spiky ones, some round ones, a couple that looked like tiny trees. I went a little crazy, to be honest.
- Potting mix: Apparently, succulents are picky about their soil. I got a special mix specifically designed for them, something about drainage.
- A pot: I chose a wide, shallow pot because, well, it looked cute. Plus, I figured it would give the succulents plenty of room to spread out.
- Some small rocks/pebbles:I put the purpost that they can be used for decoration and top dressing.
Let’s do it
I started by making the drainage for my pot. I added the small rocks and pebbles into the botton of my pot.
Next, I filled the pot with the succulent potting mix, leaving a bit of space at the top. I didn’t pack it down too tight – apparently, these plants like their roots to breathe. Who knew?
Now for the fun part: planting! I carefully took each succulent out of its little plastic container, trying not to damage the roots (they looked so delicate!). I arranged them in the pot, playing around with the layout until I was happy with how it looked. I made sure to leave a little space between each plant, so they wouldn’t be too crowded.
I did add some small rocks and pebbles as decoration and top dressing. It looks much more beautiful.
The Finishing Touch
Once all the succulents were in place, I gave them a gentle watering. Not too much, just enough to settle the soil. I learned the hard way that overwatering is a big no-no for succulents. They’re desert plants, after all, used to dry conditions.
And that’s it! My succulent mix is complete. I placed the pot on my windowsill, where it gets plenty of sunlight. Now, I just have to remember to water it sparingly and admire my handiwork. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of my little succulent creation. It’s definitely added a touch of green to my room, and it’s surprisingly relaxing to look at. Maybe I’ll even try to propagate some of them later on – but that’s a project for another day!
