Okay, so today I want to talk about my Hoya ‘Splash’ and how I’ve been taking care of it. I’m no expert, just a regular dude who likes plants, and this Hoya thing has been quite a journey. I got this plant a while ago, and it’s been pretty chill, not too much drama.
First, I got this Hoya and potted it. I remember reading somewhere that they like their roots to breathe a bit. So, I mixed up some soil, the kind you use for cacti and succulents, with some orchid mix and a bunch of perlite. The idea was to make sure there’s plenty of air around the roots. I also picked a pot that wasn’t too big. Apparently, Hoyas like to be a little snug to flower, so I didn’t want to give it too much space.

- Made sure it got good light.
- Watered it just right.
- Kept an eye on the humidity.
Then came the light situation. I placed it in a spot where it gets a decent amount of indirect light. I did notice that it seemed to like a bit of direct sun, but not too much. I just made sure it wasn’t getting blasted by the sun all day long. It’s been doing pretty well there, just chilling and growing.
Watering was the next thing. I waited until the soil was dry. You can tell when the leaves start to look a bit wrinkly, that’s when you know it’s time. During spring and summer, when it’s growing more, I watered it more often. But in winter, I backed off to avoid root rot. I also threw in some fertilizer every now and then during the growing season, but nothing too crazy.
This plant is supposed to be from the Philippines, so it likes humidity. I tried to keep the humidity around 60-70%. I have a humidifier, so I just put the Hoya near it. On dry days, I misted it with water. It seems to like that. I mean, it hasn’t died on me, so I guess that’s a good sign.
The End Result
Honestly, it’s been pretty low maintenance. It’s not picky about the soil as long as it drains well. It doesn’t need a ton of fertilizer. And it’s cool with indirect light. It’s just been sitting there, looking pretty, and not giving me any trouble. It has been grown really well!
So yeah, that’s my experience with the Hoya ‘Splash’. It’s been a cool plant to have around. Easy to care for, and it looks nice. If you’re thinking about getting one, I’d say go for it. Just don’t overthink it, it’s a pretty forgiving plant.
