Today, I wanted to get my hands dirty and make something cool for my garden. I’ve always loved those quirky flower pots, and I thought, “Why not combine a watering can and a flower pot?” So, I decided to make a “watering can flower pot.”

Gathering My Tools and Materials

First things first, I needed to gather all my materials. I grabbed an old watering can from the shed – the kind with a long spout. Then, I picked up a plastic flower pot that looked like it would fit nicely inside the watering can’s opening. For the plants, I chose some colorful petunias because they’re easy to care for and look great. I also got some potting soil, a small hand trowel, and a pair of gardening gloves.

Prepping the Watering Can

I started by cleaning the watering can thoroughly. It had some dirt and old leaves inside, so I gave it a good rinse with the garden hose. I made sure to shake out all the excess water. Next, I checked for any rust or damage. Luckily, it was in pretty good shape, just a bit faded from the sun.

Preparing the Pot

After that, I took the plastic flower pot and made sure it had drainage holes at the bottom. Mine already had some, so I didn’t need to drill any. I placed a small piece of mesh over the holes to prevent the soil from washing out when watering.

Planting the Flowers

  • I filled the flower pot with potting soil, leaving some space at the top.
  • Then, I gently removed the petunias from their containers, being careful not to damage the roots.
  • I arranged them in the pot, making sure they had enough space to grow.
  • I carefully added more soil around the plants, pressing it down gently to secure them.

Combining the Two

Now for the fun part. I carefully inserted the filled flower pot into the opening of the watering can. It fit perfectly! I adjusted it a bit to make sure it was stable and wouldn’t tip over. The petunias looked like they were growing right out of the watering can’s spout, which was exactly the effect I wanted.

Adding the Final Touches

I gave the petunias a good watering, using the watering can itself, of course. This also helped settle the soil in the pot. I placed my new creation on my patio, where it would get plenty of sunlight. It looked so charming and whimsical!

Enjoying My Creation

I stood back and admired my handiwork. It was such a simple project, but it added so much character to my garden. Every time I water my petunias, I smile at how cute and functional my watering can flower pot is. It’s a great conversation starter too – everyone who sees it loves the idea!

This little project was a fun way to spend an afternoon, and it brought a unique touch to my outdoor space. I’m already thinking about what other everyday items I can turn into planters. Maybe an old boot or a vintage teapot next time!
