Okay, here’s my blog post about repotting my ficus tree:
So, my ficus, Frankie, was looking a little…sad. Leaves were kinda droopy, and I noticed some roots poking out of the drainage holes. Time for a bigger pot, I figured!

Getting Started
First, I gathered my supplies. I made sure have:
- A new pot (just a couple inches bigger than the old one)
- Some fresh potting mix
- A trowel (or a big spoon, whatever works)
- A watering can
- Gloves (because I’m messy)
I also, laid down some newspaper on my balcony, it is going to get messy soon
The Dirty Work
Next, I gently tugged on Frankie’s trunk to loosen him from the old pot. It took a little wiggling, but he eventually slid out. Oh boy, those roots were definitely crowded!
I used my fingers to carefully loosen the root ball. Some of the roots were circling around the bottom, so I gently teased them apart. It’s like giving the roots a little massage, helping them spread out.
New Home, New Life
I put a layer of fresh potting mix in the bottom of the new pot. Then, I placed Frankie in the center and started filling in around the sides with more soil. I made sure not to pack it down too tight – the roots need some air, too!
Once the pot was full, I gave Frankie a good watering. I watered until I saw water draining out of the bottom. This helps settle the soil and gives the roots a nice, refreshing drink.
Fingers Crossed!
And that’s it! Frankie’s now happily settled in his new, bigger home. I’m hoping he’ll perk up and start growing like crazy. Repotting can be a little stressful for plants, but I think Frankie’s a tough cookie. I’ll keep an eye on him over the next few weeks, making sure he’s getting enough light and water.

Honestly, it felt pretty good to get my hands dirty and do something nice for my plant buddy. Now, fingers crossed he thrives!
