Today, I wanted to get my hands dirty and do some gardening. I’ve been meaning to plant some new flowers in my backyard, and I figured it was the perfect time to finally do it. I needed to get the right tools for the job, so I grabbed a couple of hand shovels.
Getting Started
First things first, I put on my gardening gloves. Gotta protect those hands, you know? Then, I took a look at the area where I wanted to plant the flowers. It was a bit overgrown with weeds, so my initial task was to clear that out.

Clearing the Weeds
- I used one of the hand shovels to dig up the weeds. The soil was a little tough in some spots, but the shovel made it pretty easy to loosen everything up.
- I made sure to get the roots of the weeds, too, so they wouldn’t just grow back. It was a bit of work, but satisfying to see the area getting cleared.
Prepping the Soil
Once the weeds were gone, I used the hand shovel to turn over the soil. This helps to aerate it and make it easier for the new plants to take root. I added some compost to the soil as well, to give the flowers some extra nutrients. I mixed it in thoroughly with the shovel.
Planting the Flowers
Now for the fun part! I carefully dug small holes for each flower, using the hand shovel. Placed each flower in its hole, and then gently filled in the soil around it, patting it down to make sure the flower was secure. It’s so simple, but use the small hand tools will make everything efficiently.
The End Result
After I planted all the flowers, I gave them a good watering. Standing back and look at my handiwork. It’s not a huge transformation, but it definitely brightens up the backyard. I’m excited to see these flowers bloom!
All in all, a pretty good day of gardening. Those hand shovels were definitely the MVPs of the day, making the whole process much easier.
