Okay, here is my blog post about growing a ficus lyrata standard:

So, I finally got my hands on a ficus lyrata standard, also known as a fiddle leaf fig tree. I’d been wanting one of these beauties for ages, and let me tell you, it was quite the journey to get it to where it is now. I am so excited to share my experience with you.

Growing a ficus lyrata standard: the ultimate guide to fiddle-leaf fig success (light, water, and soil needs revealed)

First off, finding the right one was a challenge in itself. I went to so many nurseries, and they either didn’t have them, or the ones they had looked kind of sad and droopy. I almost gave up, but then I stumbled upon this little gem in a local plant shop. It was love at first sight! It was this beautiful, tall, and healthy standard, and I knew I had to have it.

Bringing it home was another adventure. I had to carefully transport it in my car, making sure it didn’t get damaged. I even wrapped it in a blanket to protect the leaves. Once it was home, I placed it in a spot with plenty of bright, indirect light. I read somewhere that these guys love light, so I made sure it was getting enough.

Watering was a whole other story. I was so afraid of overwatering it because I’d heard that they’re prone to root rot. Initially, I probably underwatered it a bit, but I quickly learned to check the soil. I would stick my finger about two inches into the soil, and if it felt dry, I would give it a good soak. I also made sure the pot had good drainage, so the water wouldn’t sit at the bottom.

As for fertilizing, I was a bit clueless at first. But after some trial and error, I started using a balanced liquid fertilizer every few weeks during the growing season. I think it really helped because the plant started sprouting new leaves like crazy!

Here are some of the key things I’ve learned along the way:

  • Light is key: These plants thrive in bright, indirect light. Don’t be afraid to give them plenty of it.
  • Water carefully: It’s better to underwater than overwater. Check the soil before watering, and make sure the pot has good drainage.
  • Don’t be afraid to fertilize: A balanced fertilizer can do wonders, especially during the growing season.
  • Be patient: It takes time for these plants to adjust to a new environment. Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t seem to be thriving immediately.

It’s been a few months now, and my ficus lyrata standard is doing great! It’s grown so much, and it’s become the centerpiece of my living room. It’s definitely been a learning experience, but it’s been so rewarding to watch this plant flourish under my care. I’m no expert, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come with this plant, and I’m excited to continue learning and growing with it.

If you’re thinking about getting a ficus lyrata standard, I say go for it! It’s a beautiful plant that can really brighten up any space. Just be prepared to put in a little bit of work, and you’ll be rewarded with a stunning addition to your home.
