Okay, here’s my blog post about making a “flowerpot lampa,” written in a casual, personal style:
So, I saw this cute little lamp online, and I was like, “I gotta have that!” But then I saw the price, and I was like, “Nope, I can make that!” It’s basically a flowerpot turned upside down with a light inside. Sounded easy enough, right? Well, it kinda was, and kinda wasn’t. Let me tell you the whole story.

Getting Started
First, I went to the local garden store. I needed a terracotta pot, you know, the classic orange kind. I found one that was a good size – not too big, not too small. I also grabbed a saucer, the thing that goes under the pot to catch water. That was going to be the base of my lamp.
The Messy Part
Next up, the scary part: drilling a hole in the pot. I don’t own a drill, but, luckily, my neighbor Bob is a tool guy. I borrowed his drill and a special ceramic drill bit (important!). I put on some safety glasses (very important!), and, holding my breath, I started drilling. Slowly… very slowly… It took a while, and it was dusty, but I got a hole big enough for the lamp cord to fit through. Success!
Painting and Decorating
Now for the fun part! I wanted my lamp to be white, so I gave both the pot and the saucer a couple of coats of white acrylic paint. I let it dry completely. I’m no artist, but I can handle some basic painting. Plain white was a bit boring, though, So i add some simple patterns on it!
Putting It All Together
- I bought a simple lamp kit from the hardware store. It had a cord, a socket, and a switch – all the basics.
- I threaded the cord through the hole in the flowerpot.
- I attached the socket to the cord inside the pot.
- I screwed in a light bulb. I chose a warm-toned LED bulb for a cozy glow.
- I flipped the pot upside down onto the saucer.
The Final Result
And there it was! My flowerpot lamp! I plugged it in, flipped the switch, and… it worked! It looked pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself. It gives off a nice, soft light, perfect for my bedside table. I’m pretty proud of my little DIY project. It wasn’t perfect – the paint job is a little uneven in places – but it’s mine, and I made it! And it cost way less than the one I saw online. That is win-win!
