Okay, here’s my blog post about making a monogrammed watering can:
So, I saw this cute watering can at the store the other day, but it was kinda plain. I thought, “Hey, I can totally jazz this up!” I’ve been wanting to try out monogramming on something other than fabric, so this was the perfect opportunity.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed my supplies. I already had:
- The plain watering can (obviously!)
- Some acrylic paint (I chose a nice, bright teal)
- A few different sized paintbrushes
- A pencil
- Some painter’s tape (the blue stuff)
- Clear sealant spray
I picked up a stencil of the letter “M” (for my last name, duh) from the craft store. Make sure you get a stencil that’s the right size for your watering can. I also picked the clear sealant spray.
The Messy Part
I started by giving the watering can a good wipe-down. Gotta get rid of any dust or anything that might mess up the paint.
Next, I taped the stencil onto the watering can where I wanted the monogram to be. I used the painter’s tape to really secure it down, making sure all the edges were stuck so the paint wouldn’t bleed underneath.
Then came the fun part – painting! I loaded up my brush with the teal paint, but not too much. I didn’t want it to be gloppy. I carefully dabbed the paint onto the stencil, making sure to get into all the little corners. I did the center areas.
I did a couple of coats, letting the paint dry a bit in between. Patience is key, people! You don’t want to rush it and end up with a smudged mess.
The Big Reveal
Once I was happy with the coverage, I very, very carefully peeled off the stencil. This is the most satisfying part! Seeing that crisp, clean letter appear is just chef’s kiss.

I let the paint dry completely. Like, overnight completely. Just to be sure.
Finishing Touches
After it was totally dry, I took the watering can outside and sprayed it with a few coats of clear sealant. This will help protect the paint from chipping and fading, especially since it’ll be used outdoors. I let that dry completely, too.
And that’s it! Now I have a super cute, personalized watering can. It was a really easy project, and it turned out way better than I expected. If you’re looking for a simple way to add a personal touch to something, I definitely recommend giving this a try!
