Okay, so I saw this cool flowerpot floor lamp online, and I thought, “I can totally make that!” It looked pretty straightforward, just a big pot, a pole, and a lampshade. How hard could it be, right?
Finding the Right Stuff
First things first, I needed a flowerpot. I went to a couple of local garden stores. It took a little while to find one that was big enough and also looked the way I wanted. I ended up getting a terracotta one, a classic.

Then, I needed a pole. I figured a wooden dowel would work best, so I hit up the hardware store. I got one that was about 5 feet tall – seemed like a good height for a floor lamp. I also grabbed some sandpaper while I was there, to smooth out any rough edges.
- Terracotta flowerpot (large size)
- Wooden dowel (approx. 5 feet)
- Sandpaper
Putting it all Together
Next, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the flowerpot, just big enough for the dowel to fit through. That was probably the trickiest part, making sure I didn’t crack the pot. I went slow and steady, and it worked out fine!
Then I sanded down the dowel, especially the ends, so it wouldn’t be splintery. After that, I stuck the dowel through the hole in the pot. It was a pretty snug fit, which was good.
Now, for the electrical part. Honestly, I’m not super comfortable messing with wiring, so I bought a simple lamp kit. It came with everything I needed: a socket, a cord, and a switch. Much easier than trying to figure it all out myself!
I attached the socket to the top of the dowel. The kit came with instructions, so it wasn’t too hard to follow. Then, I screwed in a lightbulb, just to make sure everything was working.
The Final Touch
Finally, I added a lampshade. I found a plain white one that I liked, and it fit perfectly on the socket. And that was it! My very own flowerpot floor lamp.
I plugged it in, flipped the switch, and boom! It worked! I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. It actually looked really good, and it was way cheaper than buying one online. Plus, I got to say I made it myself, which is always a good feeling. Would totally recommend giving it a try if you are looking for some fun project!
