Okay, here’s my post about taking care of ferns outside, hanging up like decorations:
Alright, so I wanted to spruce up my porch a bit, you know, make it look all green and lively. I decided to hang some ferns out there because they look super cool and kinda wild. Here’s how I went about it.

Picking the Right Spot
First off, I had to find a good spot for these ferns. I learned the hard way that you can’t just stick them anywhere. They like the morning sun, but they get all crispy and sad if they’re in the sun all day. So, I found this spot on my porch that gets some nice, gentle sun in the morning and then gets shady in the afternoon. Perfect!
Getting the Pots Ready
Next, I got some hanging pots. I made sure they were not too big, not too small, just right for my ferns. Now, I heard that ferns like to stay moist, but they don’t like sitting in water. It’s a bit of a balancing act. I decided to try out those self-watering pots I’ve seen at the store, they look like they can keep the soil just right.
Soil and Stuff
I filled the pots with some regular potting soil. But then I remembered someone telling me about sphagnum moss. Apparently, it helps keep the soil moist without making it soggy. So, I grabbed a bag of that stuff and put a layer on top of the soil. Figured it couldn’t hurt, right?
Hanging Them Up
Then came the fun part – hanging them up! I got my ladder and some sturdy hooks, and I hung those babies up. I made sure they were secure because the last thing I want is a fern crashing down on someone’s head.
Watering and Watching
Now, I water these ferns whenever the top of the soil feels a bit dry. I try to keep them in spots where I walk by a lot, so I don’t forget about them. It’s like they’re my little green pets now. I give them a little check every day, making sure they’re doing okay.
Keeping an Eye Out
- I watch out for the leaves. If they start turning yellow or brown, I know something’s up. Might be too much sun, or maybe I’m not watering them right.
- I also look for bugs. Ferns can get those little pests sometimes, and nobody wants that.
So far, my ferns are doing great! They look awesome hanging on my porch, and they make the whole place feel more alive. It’s been a fun little project, and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. If you’re thinking about adding some green to your outdoor space, I’d say give ferns a try. Just remember to give them some love and attention, and they’ll thrive!
