Okay, so I’ve been having a bit of a battle with my eucalyptus trees lately. It all started a few months back when I noticed some weird stuff going on with the leaves.
My Eucalyptus Troubles
First, I spotted these tiny little bumps all over some of the leaves. They were kind of a reddish-brown color. I picked one off and squished it – yup, definitely bugs. Looked like some kind of scale insect. I did a little digging online, and it seemed like they were probably psyllids, which are apparently a common pest for eucalyptus.
Then, I started seeing these weird, discolored patches on other leaves – kind of yellowish and brown. Some of the leaves were even starting to curl up and look all crispy. That didn’t look good. I figured it had to be some kind of disease on top of pests.
So, here’s what I did:
- Pruned: I grabbed my pruning shears and snipped off any branches that looked really badly affected. I made sure to clean my shears with some rubbing alcohol afterward, so I didn’t accidentally spread anything.
- Sprayed. I went and got some insecticidal soap. I diluted it with some * then I spayed all the leaves.
- Checked: For the disease, it was a bit trickier. I read that good airflow can help, so I made sure to thin out some of the branches to give the trees more space to “breathe.”
- Removed. And collect the fallen leaves on the ground and throw away.
It’s still a work in progress, to be honest. I’m keeping a close eye on the trees, spraying them every week or so with the insecticidal soap, and making sure they’re getting enough water (but not too much!). It’s a bit of a pain, but I’m determined to get my eucalyptus trees back to their happy, healthy selves!
