My god, I tell you, these houseplant tools, they are something. You don’t know what you are missing. Back in my days, we used whatever we had. But now? Oh, honey, there’s a tool for everything!
Watering Can
First thing, you gotta have a watering can. How else you gonna water them plants? You can’t just use a bucket, it will flood the poor things. This watering can, it’s got a long spout, you see? So you can reach the soil real easy, don’t even have to bend over. It is very good for my old bones, you know.

Trowel and Spray Bottle
Then you need one of them little shovels, what do you call it? A trowel. Yeah, a trowel. For digging little holes and putting the plants in. Can’t use your hands, you’ll get all dirty, though I never mind a bit of dirt.
And a spray bottle! Yes, a spray bottle. Some of these fancy plants, they like a little misting. Keeps them happy, I guess. I don’t know, I just do what they tell me. They say spray, I spray. Just don’t use it when the sun is too hot, plants are easy to get sunburned.
Soil
Don’t even get me started on the soil. Back in my day, dirt was dirt. Now? Oh, there’s soil for this, soil for that. Special soil for when they’re babies, special soil for when they’re grown up. It’s all so confusing! It is said that good soil can keep plants healthy, and I guess it’s good to have some.
- Soil for baby plants
- Soil for grown-up plants
- Soil for this type of plant
- Soil for that type of plant
Pruning Shears
And these clippers, they call them pruning shears. For cutting off the dead bits, you know? Keeps the plants looking nice and tidy. I used to just use my kitchen scissors, but these are much better. Sharp, too! Gotta be careful, don’t want to cut yourself.
Stakes and Magnifying Glass
Some plants, they get all floppy, need a little help standing up. So you use these sticks, stakes, they call them. Tie the plant to the stake with a bit of string, and it’s happy as a clam. Some plants, like ivy, love to climb. So you will need these stakes to help them grow. Some flowers, like jasmine, need them too.
If you are like me, old and can’t see very well, you will need a magnifying glass. It can help you see the small plants clearly. I like it very much, very useful.
Gloves
If you don’t like to get your hands dirty, get some gloves. They will keep your hands clean. But, you know, I never use them. I like the feeling of the soil between my fingers.

Pots
Of course, you need pots. Lots of pots. Different sizes, different colors. Make sure they have holes in the bottom, though. For the water to drain out. Otherwise, the roots will rot, and then you’ve got a dead plant on your hands. I learned that the hard way, believe me.
More About Houseplant Tools
These houseplant tools, they make things a lot easier, I gotta say. Back in my day, we just made do with what we had. But these newfangled things, they’re pretty handy. I still don’t understand half of them, but the plants seem to like them.
There are all sorts of other things, too. Special food for the plants. Lights for when there’s not enough sun. It’s a whole different world, I tell you. And all these tools, you can get them at the store. Or online, they say. I don’t know about all that online stuff. I just go to the store down the road.
But if you’re gonna have these indoor plants, you gotta have the right tools. That’s what they all say. And I guess they’re right. My plants are doing pretty good, and I use all these tools.
So there you have it. Houseplant tools. A whole bunch of stuff you probably never even thought about. But if you want your plants to be happy, you gotta get them. Trust me, I know. I’ve been growing things for a long time, even if I don’t always understand all these new gadgets.
Just remember what I said about the watering can. That’s the most important thing. Don’t drown your plants! And get the right soil. And the clippers. Okay, maybe it’s all important. Just get all the tools. You’ll need them.
