Okay, here’s my blog post about making a ponytail palm plant stand, written in a casual, conversational style, just like the example:
So, I’ve got this ponytail palm, right? It’s pretty cool, kinda looks like a tiny tree with a big, bulbous base. But it was just sitting on the floor, looking kinda… sad. I figured it needed a lift, literally. Time for a DIY project!

Brainstorming and Gathering Stuff
First, I thought about what I wanted. Something simple, not too fancy. I didn’t want to hide the cool base of the plant, so a regular pot stand wouldn’t do. I needed something that would elevate it but still show off that chunky bottom.
I rummaged around in my garage (because, let’s be honest, that’s where all the project potential is). I found some scrap wood – leftover pieces from a shelving project. Perfect! I also grabbed:
- Wood glue
- Screws
- Sandpaper (various grits)
- My trusty drill
- A saw (hand saw, because I’m old school like that)
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
Building the Thing
I measured the base of my ponytail palm to get an idea of how big the stand needed to be. I wanted it to be just a bit wider than the plant’s base. Then, I cut the wood into four legs and four pieces for the top, making a simple square frame.
Next, I sanded all the pieces. Nobody wants splinters, especially not when you’re dealing with plants. I started with rough grit sandpaper and worked my way down to fine grit to get everything nice and smooth.
Then came the assembly. I used wood glue to attach the legs to the top frame pieces. To make it extra sturdy, I also screwed them together. I’m all about that overkill when it comes to DIY – better safe than sorry!
Finishing Touches (or Lack Thereof)
Once the glue was dry, I gave the whole thing another quick sanding, just to make sure everything was flush and even. Now, I could have painted or stained it, but I kinda liked the raw wood look. It felt rustic and matched the vibe of my plant. So, I left it as is.
Finally, I placed my ponytail palm on its new stand. Boom! Instant upgrade. It looks so much better now, and it’s not just sitting on the floor anymore. Plus, I made it myself, which always feels good.

It wasn’t a super complicated project, but it made a big difference. And that’s the beauty of DIY, right? Taking something simple and making it your own. And my ponytail palm is much happier.
