Do Monstera Plants Need Light? Essential Care Tips for Beginners!

Okay, so I’ve been getting into houseplants lately, and I decided to get a Monstera. You know, those plants with the cool, holey leaves? I’d heard they were pretty easy to care for, but I wanted to make sure I got the lighting right. Here’s how it went:

Figuring Out Where to Put It

First, I did some digging around. I found out that Monsteras like things bright, but not too bright. Apparently, direct sunlight can burn their leaves – who knew? I definitely didn’t want that to happen.

  • Bright, Indirect Light is Key:I learned this is, like, the most important thing.

So, I observed my living room. I’ve got this big window that gets tons of sun in the afternoon. I figured placing the Monstera near the window, but not directly in front of it, was the perfect plan. I moved a small table a few feet away from the window – kind of off to the side.

Watching for Signs of Trouble

I placed my Monstera on the table and kept an eye on it. I’ve been doing that for a few weeks now. After the first week, I noticed some leaves near the window side turning slightly yellow.

  • Yellowing Leaves: I thought this might be because of too much light.

Because of the Yellow leaves, I moved the plant a bit further away from the window, probably another foot or two. I also made sure it wasn’t in the path of any direct sunbeams as the sun moved across the sky.

Seeing the Results

After I moved the plant, it seemed much happier. I mean it. The yellowing stopped, and I even started seeing some new growth! Those new leaves were a healthy, vibrant green, and the signature holes were developing nicely.

It’s been a bit of trial and error, honestly. I’m still learning, but it seems like finding that “sweet spot” with the light is making all the difference. Now, it’s growing well, and I haven’t seen any more yellowing or other problems.

I am keeping checking it, but It looks like I finally nailed it! My Monstera is thriving, and I’m feeling pretty good about my plant-parenting skills. I’ll probably keep tweaking things as the seasons change, but for now, we’re in a good place.
