Well, howdy there! Today, we’re gonna yak about them fancy-pants succulent stands with shade, ya know, the ones for them little fat plants. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I’ve seen a thing or two in my day, and I reckon I can tell ya how to get one of them things set up.
First off, what’s a succulent stand with shade cover? Don’t get all highfalutin on me, it’s just a thingy, like a little shelf or a table, where you put your succulents so they ain’t sittin’ on the ground. And the shade part? Well, that’s just somethin’ to keep them little fellers from gettin’ too much sun. Sun’s good, but too much’ll fry ’em like a chicken in a skillet, ya hear?

Now, why would ya want one of these things? Well, let me tell ya, succulents, they’re kinda picky. They like the sun, but not too much. They like water, but not too much. They’re like spoiled brats, if you ask me. So, this stand thingy, it helps keep ’em happy. Gives ’em a place to sit pretty and keeps ’em from gettin’ all scorched.
So, how do ya get one? Well, you can go and buy one of them fancy store-bought ones, if you got money to burn. But me? I like to do things myself. It’s cheaper, and it gives ya somethin’ to do besides watchin’ them soap operas.
First thing you gotta do is figure out how big ya want it. Got a whole mess of succulents? Then ya need a big stand. Just got a few little ones? Then a small one will do. Makes sense, right? Don’t go buildin’ somethin’ the size of a barn for a handful of plants, that’d be plumb crazy.
Now, you gotta get some wood. I ain’t talkin’ ’bout no fancy mahogany or nothin’. Just some plain ol’ boards will do. Go down to the lumber yard and get yerself some 2x4s and some plywood. That’s all ya need. And don’t go gettin’ the warped ones, you’ll be cussin’ up a storm tryin’ to make ‘em fit. Get the straight ones, the ones that look like they mean business.
Then, you gotta cut the wood. Now, be careful with that saw, ya hear? Don’t want ya loosin’ a finger. Cut the 2x4s to the length you need for the legs and the frame. And cut the plywood for the shelves. Measure twice, cut once, that’s what my old pappy used to say. He weren’t always right, but he was right about that.
- Cut wood for legs and frame.
- Cut plywood for shelves.
- Sand all the edges so you don’t get splinters.
Once you got all the wood cut, you gotta put it together. Now, you can use nails, or screws, or glue, or whatever ya got handy. I like screws myself, they hold tighter. Just make sure it’s all sturdy, ya don’t want it fallin’ apart on ya. And make sure it’s level, too. Nothin’ worse than a wobbly stand, makes your plants look like they’ve been on the sauce.
Now, for the shade part. You can use all sorts of things for shade. A piece of cloth, a piece of wood, even some cardboard will do. Just make sure it’s big enough to cover your plants and keep ’em outta the sun. I reckon some of that shade cloth they use for greenhouses would work real good, lets the light in but keeps the burny rays out. And make sure it’s easy to take off and put on, so you can adjust it as the sun moves.

DIY plant stand ain’t so hard, is it? You just gotta use your head and a little elbow grease. And don’t be afraid to get creative. You can paint it, stain it, or even cover it in them sparkly things, if that’s what you like. Just make sure it’s somethin’ you’ll be proud of, somethin’ that’ll make them succulents happy. Happy plants, happy life, that’s what I always say.
So, there ya have it. That’s all there is to it. Now, go on and build yourself a succulent stand with shade cover. Your little plants will thank ya for it. And if they don’t, well, you can always just give ’em to the neighbor’s kid. Kids love succulents, for some reason. Maybe it’s because they’re kinda like them, small and plump and full of water.
Now, I gotta go. Got a whole mess of chores to do and a pot of beans on the stove that needs stirrin’. Ya’ll take care now, ya hear?
