So, I’ve been getting into these air plants lately, right? They’re pretty cool because you don’t need to plant them in soil. But then I was like, “Where do I put these things?” I didn’t just want to lay them around on my desk or something. I wanted to show them off a bit, you know?
I started looking around for ideas, maybe some kind of stands or holders. I saw a bunch of those fancy, expensive ones online, but I wasn’t about to drop a lot of cash on those. Plus, I figured it’d be way more fun to make my own. That’s when I decided to roll up my sleeves and get my hands a bit dirty. Time to make some DIY air plant stands!

I hit up my garage first, see if I had any scrap wood lying around. Found a few pieces, nothing special, but they’d do. I’m not exactly a master carpenter, so I kept it simple. Cut a few blocks, sanded them down, you know, the basics. I even used a little wood stain on some to give them a bit of color. Nothing too crazy.
- First, I gathered some materials. I had some wood, but I also thought wire could be cool.
- Then, I started with the wood ones. Just simple designs. I cut the wood into small blocks. I made sure they were stable enough to hold the plants without tipping over.
- After that, I sanded them down to get rid of any rough edges. I wanted them to look somewhat decent, you know?
For the wire stands, I got a bit more creative. I bent and twisted the wire into different shapes, kind of like little abstract sculptures. Some were like tiny tripods, others were more like loops or spirals. I even tried making one that looked like a mini swing set. I also tried to make an A-frame stand. That was a bit trickier. I used some thin wooden dowels and glued them together. It looked pretty cool in the end.
- With the wire, I went a bit wild. I bent and shaped it into all sorts of things.
- Some were simple, like little stands with three legs. Others were more complicated, like spirals and loops.
- It was a lot of trial and error. I messed up a few times, but it was all part of the fun.
The Finishing Touches
Once I had a few stands made, I placed the air plants in them. Some of the plants fit perfectly, others needed a little adjusting. I even hung a few on the wall using some fishing line. I had a few that I thought would look better hanging. So, I made some simple wire hooks and attached them to the wall. It was pretty easy, to be honest. They actually looked really nice, like they were floating in the air. Man, I was pretty proud of how they turned out. They added a nice touch to my living room, and they’re definitely conversation starters when people come over. Also, I realized that air plants are really low maintenance. I just give them a good soak every now and then, and they’re happy.
It was a fun little project. Didn’t take too long, and I ended up with some unique decorations for my place. I also saved some money. Those store-bought stands can be pricey. Plus, I like that I made these myself. Gives them a bit of a personal touch, you know? And hey, if I can do it, anyone can. Seriously, give it a shot!
