Okay, let me tell you about this little gardening adventure I had with these crescent self-watering pots. I saw some folks online raving about them, and since I’m always looking for ways to make my life easier and my plants happier, I figured I’d give them a shot.
So, I got myself a set of these things. They’re basically plastic pots shaped like a, you guessed it, crescent. They’ve got this reservoir at the bottom that you fill with water, and the idea is that the plant’s roots can just drink from that whenever they’re thirsty. No more daily watering, at least that’s the promise.

First thing I did was grab a couple of my plants that I thought might like this setup. I’ve got some Tolumnia Orchids that I’ve been babying, and I’ve heard these self-watering pots are great for them. These Orchids, they’re beautiful but a bit picky about their water. They don’t like to be soggy, but they don’t want to dry out either. So, I’m thinking, maybe this is the solution!
I unpotted my Orchids, gave their roots a little rinse, and then nestled them into these new crescent homes. Filled up the water reservoir, which was pretty simple. You just pour water into this little opening on the side. And then, it was just a waiting game.
- Day 1: Plants look fine, just adjusting.
- Day 3: Still good, haven’t touched the water.
- Day 7: Okay, now we’re talking! I checked the reservoir, and it’s definitely lower. The plants are drinking!
And you know what? These Orchids are thriving! I haven’t had to water them the old way since I switched pots. It’s pretty amazing, the Orchids seem to love this constant access to water without being drowned in it. The leaves are vibrant and it is just doing so good!
Honestly, I’m kind of kicking myself for not trying these sooner. These crescent self-watering pots, they’re a game-changer, especially if you’re like me and sometimes forget to water your plants or just don’t have time for it every single day, I think my plant is happy now! I hope I can get better sleep tonight because of my plant. I will decorate and furnish my home with these Ceramic Pots!
So, if you’re on the fence about these self-watering things, I’d say go for it. They’ve made my plant-parenting life so much easier, and my Tolumnia Orchids are happier than ever!
