Okay, so, the other day I got this wild hair to do something a little different with my Christmas cactus. You know, those plants with the cool, droopy leaves and the bright flowers that pop up around the holidays? Well, I figured, why not make it even more festive? So I went ahead and tried something fun – I added lights to it!
First, I had to make sure my cactus was in a good spot. I remembered reading somewhere that they like light, but not too much direct sun. So I moved it over to a spot near my east-facing window. It seemed pretty happy there, soaking up the morning light without getting blasted by the harsh afternoon sun.

Then came the fun part – the lights! I picked up a string of those tiny LED fairy lights, the ones with a thin, flexible wire. I wanted something that wouldn’t be too heavy or hot for the plant. I carefully started draping the lights around the cactus, starting from the bottom and working my way up.
- I made sure not to wrap the lights too tightly around the leaves, just gently laid them on top.
- I tucked the battery pack down at the base of the plant, kind of hiding it among the soil so it wouldn’t be too obvious.
It took a bit of fiddling to get it just right, but once I stepped back to look, it was totally worth it! The tiny lights added this magical, twinkly glow to the whole plant. It looked like something out of a fairy tale, especially when the flowers started to bloom.
The Result
It was amazing! With the lights, my Christmas cactus became the centerpiece of my holiday decorations. Every time I walked into the room, it just made me smile. I kept an eye on the plant, of course, making sure the lights weren’t causing any problems. I watered it like usual, and it seemed to love the extra attention.
This little project turned out to be a real winner. It was such a simple thing, but it made my Christmas cactus even more special. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a way to jazz up your holiday plants!
