So, I’ve been getting really into indoor plants lately. My apartment was looking kinda sad, you know? Just blah. So I figured, why not bring some green inside? But, uh, turns out just sticking plants in pots isn’t the whole story. You actually need some, like, tools.
First, I went to the local garden center. Total overwhelm. There were SO many shiny things! I grabbed a watering can, obviously. Picked one with a long, skinny spout because I figured it’d be easier to aim and not drown everything.

Getting My Hands Dirty (Literally)
Next up: potting soil. Don’t even get me started on the choices there! I ended up grabbing a bag that said “for indoor plants,” figuring it was a safe bet. I also got a little trowel – basically a mini-shovel – to help me scoop the dirt without making a huge mess. Which, let’s be honest, I still kinda did.
Repotting my first few plants was… an experience. I used the trowel to loosen the soil around the edges of the old pots, gently tugged the plants out, and then plopped them into their new homes with fresh soil. Watered them with my fancy new watering can, and boom! Instant (slightly messy) upgrade.
The Little Things That Make a Big Difference
- Gloves: Didn’t get these at first, regretted it immediately. Dirt under the fingernails is not a cute look.
- Mister: Some of my plants like humidity, so I got a little spray bottle to give them a spritz every now and then.
- Pruning shears: Haven’t used these much yet, but I figured they’d be good for snipping off any dead leaves or stems. Gotta keep things looking tidy!
Honestly, it’s been super rewarding. My apartment feels way more alive, and it’s actually kinda therapeutic to mess around with plants. Plus, they’re (mostly) still alive, so I must be doing something right! It is still not perfect but I’m working on that.
