Boxwood Watering Guide: Keep Your Shrubs Healthy and Green
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, let’s talk about waterin’ them boxwood bushes. Ya know, the ones that make the yard look all fancy-like. People always askin’ me how I keep mine lookin’ so good, so I figured I’d spill the beans.

First off, you gotta water them good, real good. Not just a sprinkle on top, no sir. You gotta get that water down deep, like a foot or maybe a foot and a half. Yeah, that’s right, all the way down to them roots. Think of it like givin’ them a big drink, not just a little sip.

Boxwood Watering Guide: Keep Your Shrubs Healthy and Green
  • Water deep, real deep, like a foot or a foot and a half.
  • Let the dirt dry out good before waterin’ again.

Now, here’s the important part. Don’t go waterin’ them every day. That ain’t no good. You gotta let the dirt dry out, see? Make them roots work a little. It’s like this, if you just keep givin’ them water, they get lazy. They don’t go lookin’ for it. But if you let the dirt dry, them roots gotta go searchin’, and that makes ’em strong. So, water deep, then let it dry, then water deep again. That’s the way to do it.

When them boxwoods are young, you gotta water ’em more often, maybe once a week. But when they get bigger, you can slow down a bit. Maybe every two weeks, maybe even four, dependin’ on how hot it is. If it’s real hot and dry, you might gotta water ’em more. Just use your common sense, you know? Look at the dirt. If it’s dry, water it. If it ain’t, don’t.

And don’t forget about feedin’ them bushes. They need food just like we do. But don’t go usin’ that fancy stuff. Just get some good old plant food, the kind that works for everything. And don’t overdo it. Too much food ain’t good either. Just follow the directions on the bag, and you’ll be fine. Keep ’em green, that’s what I say.

Now, sometimes them boxwoods, they start turnin’ yellow or brown. That ain’t good. It means somethin’s wrong. Could be too much water, could be not enough. Could be they need more food. Could be somethin’ else entirely. Sometimes it’s just bad luck, you know? But most of the time, if you water ’em right and feed ’em right, they’ll be just fine.

I seen some folks gettin’ all worked up about boxwood problems. They start readin’ all them fancy books and websites, tryin’ to figure out what’s wrong. But I tell ya, most of the time it’s somethin’ simple. Just water ’em good, feed ’em good, and leave ’em alone. They’ll take care of themselves.

So there you have it. That’s my secret to growin’ good boxwoods. It ain’t rocket science, you know? Just good old common sense. Water deep, let it dry, feed ’em right, and they’ll be the prettiest bushes on the block. And don’t go buyin’ expensive stuff, keep it simple, that’s how we always done it and it worked just fine.

And one more thing. Don’t go fussin’ over them too much. Plants are like kids, you know? If you hover over them all the time, they don’t learn to fend for themselves. Just give ’em what they need and let ’em be. They’ll grow strong and healthy, just like they’re supposed to.

Boxwood Watering Guide: Keep Your Shrubs Healthy and Green

Now, I gotta go get back to my garden. But I hope this helped you out. Remember, water deep, let it dry, feed ’em good, and don’t fuss too much. That’s the secret to happy boxwoods.
