Hey, everyone! It’s been a while since I posted, but I’ve been busy with my latest project – and I’m excited to share it with you all. Today, let’s talk about something a bit different: caring for a bird’s nest fern. Yep, you heard that right, we’re diving into the world of indoor plants!
So, I picked up this beautiful bird’s nest fern a few weeks back. It was love at first sight! It’s got these amazing, wavy fronds that just make you think of a tropical paradise. It’s become a real statement piece in my living room, and I wanted to make sure I was giving it the best care possible.

First thing I did was find a good spot for it. I learned that these guys love bright, but indirect light. So, I placed mine near a north-facing window where it gets plenty of light without being directly under the sun’s rays. This seems to be its happy place because it’s been thriving ever since.
Next up, water. Now, this is where I almost messed up. I initially thought, “Fern, must like it wet,” but boy, was I wrong. I learned that while they like their soil to be moist, they hate soggy feet. I ended up slightly overwatering it, but thankfully caught it early. No serious damage done, but a valuable lesson learned. Now, I make sure the soil is just evenly moist. I stick my finger in about an inch, and if it feels dry, I give it a good watering. But here’s a little trick I found: I try to avoid getting the center of the plant wet. It’s like a little nest in there, and I heard that a wet “nest” is like an open invitation for mold and bacteria. I avoid the middle and water all around the base.
-
Find the right spot with bright, indirect light.
-
Water it just enough to keep the soil evenly moist.
-
Avoid getting water in the center ‘nest’ of the plant.
Another thing I had to figure out was humidity. Turns out, these ferns are like us humans; they love a good humid environment. I started misting it every other day with a spray bottle, and it seems to be loving it. The fronds look so much healthier and vibrant now.
And lastly, I did a bit of pruning. Some of the older fronds were starting to yellow, so I just snipped them off with a pair of sharp scissors. Easy peasy! It helped keep the plant looking neat and tidy. I learned you can do this any time of the year, so it’s not a seasonal thing. Pretty cool, huh?

Caring for this bird’s nest fern has been such a fun experience. It’s not just about keeping a plant alive; it’s about creating a little piece of nature indoors. And trust me, the effort is totally worth it. Every time I look at my fern, it brings a smile to my face. I can’t wait for it to grow bigger. I might need a bigger pot soon!
So, if you’re thinking about getting a bird’s nest fern, go for it! It’s a great way to add some green to your space, and it’s not as hard as you might think. Just remember: bright indirect light, evenly moist soil, avoid a wet center, and a bit of humidity. You’ll have a happy, thriving fern in no time!
