Okay, so, I’ve been getting into succulents lately, right? They’re just so cool and come in all these crazy shapes and colors. I wanted to share my little journey into planting these bad boys, and trust me, it’s been a learning curve. I’m gonna walk you through what I’ve picked up about the tools you need and how to actually use them.
First off, you gotta have the right tools. I went out and got myself this neat little succulent tool kit. It’s got all sorts of stuff in it, and honestly, I don’t use everything, but a few of these tools are total lifesavers.

Hand Tools
So, in my kit, there are these mini shovels and rakes, super cute, right? They’re perfect for when you’re dealing with tiny pots or when you need to move the soil around without messing up the whole setup. I used the shovel to scoop out some special succulent soil mix I got. It’s way easier than using your hands and getting dirt everywhere.
Watering Tools
Now, watering is where things can go south real quick with succulents. They don’t like too much water. I’ve got this watering can with a long, skinny spout, and it’s a game changer. You can aim right at the base of the plant without getting the leaves wet, which is a big no-no for these guys. I did kill my first succulent, because I am a noob who knows nothing about succulents, so I watered it everyday. You know what, let it go.
Planting
Alright, let’s talk about the actual planting part. I picked up some clay pots. They’re, like, the go-to for succulents because they let the soil dry out fast. You don’t want your plants sitting in soggy soil, trust me, that’s a one-way ticket to root rot city. I’ve collected a bunch of these pots now, some of them are really pretty, but the basic ones work just fine.
- First thing, I made sure my pots had holes at the bottom.
- Then, I used my mini shovel to fill the pots with that special succulent soil mix.
- Next, I grabbed my tweezers from the tool kit (yeah, it’s got tweezers too!) and gently picked up my little succulent cuttings.
- I used the pointy end of the tweezers, or sometimes a chopstick, to make small holes in the soil.
- Then, I carefully placed each succulent into its new home and patted the soil around it.
- Once they were all snug in their pots, I gave them a little drink using my watering can. Just enough until I saw water coming out the bottom, and that’s it.
After that, I put them in this bright spot in my living room where they get plenty of indirect sunlight. They seem pretty happy there, growing slow and steady. And that’s pretty much it, my succulent planting adventure. I hope you find this helpful. Don’t hesitate to ask me questions if you have any!
