Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… standin’… standin’ foo-shuh thing, whatever it’s called. My grandkid told me it’s a flower, kinda like them pretty things hangin’ in baskets, but these ones stand up straight, I guess. Anyways, I don’t know much about fancy flowers, but I know what looks good in a garden, ya know?
So, they tell me there’s a whole bunch of these foo-shuhs. Like, more than you can shake a stick at! Hundreds, they say. Can you believe it? Who needs that many kinds of flowers? But I reckon some folks like choices. Me? I just want somethin’ pretty that don’t die on me right away.

- Angel Earrings Foo-shuh: Now these, they sound kinda silly, “Angel Earrings.” Like little angels wearin’ flowers on their ears? Hmph. But they say these ones are real popular. They got lots of different kinds, all in that “Angel Earrings” bunch. I guess they hang down like earrings, maybe? Makes a little more sense then.
- Army Nurse Foo-shuh: This one’s got a funny name too. “Army Nurse.” What kinda flower name is that? But they say it’s a tough one, a shrub, you know, like a little bush. And it’s got purple flowers. Purple’s nice. My grandma used to have purple flowers, real pretty they were.
- Rose Fantasia Foo-shuh: Now this one sounds fancy. “Rose Fantasia.” Like somethin’ outta a fairy tale. They say it blooms all summer long, right up until the frost comes. That’s pretty good, lasts a long time. And the flowers are bright, they say, sparklin’ in the sun. Sounds like a good one for puttin’ along the edge of the garden, ya know, make it look nice. They call that a… uh… border plant, I think. Yeah, border plant. Sounds right.
So, from what I gather, you got all sorts of these foo-shuhs. Some stand up, some hang down, some are tough, some are… well, I guess they’re all kinda pretty in their own way. It’s all about what you like, I reckon. You want somethin’ that hangs, you get one of them hangin’ kinds. You want somethin’ that stands up tall, you get one of these standin’ ones. Seems simple enough, even for an old gal like me.
And they talk about these… uh… “zones.” Zone 10, they say. Means somethin’ about where these flowers can live, I guess. If it gets too cold, they die. So, you gotta know where you live and what kind of foo-shuh you can plant. Seems like a lot of fuss for a flower, but folks like what they like, right? Me, I just stick to what I know, mostly. But these foo-shuhs, they do look kinda nice. Maybe I’ll try plantin’ one or two. Somethin’ that blooms all summer, that sounds good to me. Don’t want somethin’ that just gives up after a week, ya know?
And I hear tell some of these foo-shuhs, they’re perennials. That means they come back year after year, I think. That’s good. Means you don’t gotta keep plantin’ new ones all the time. Saves a body some work, which is always a good thing, far as I’m concerned. Workin’ in the garden is nice, but too much work ain’t good for nobody, especially not an old lady like me.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a pretty flower that stands up straight and maybe blooms all summer, this… uh… standin’ foo-shuh might be just the ticket. Just gotta figure out which one you want, with all them hundreds of kinds. Good luck with that! Me? I think I’ll stick with that “Rose Fantasia” one. Sounds pretty, and it lasts a long time. Can’t go wrong with that, can ya? And if it don’t work out, well, there’s always next year, right? Plenty of time to try somethin’ else. Gardening’s like that, I guess. You try, you learn, and you keep on tryin’. And maybe, just maybe, you end up with somethin’ beautiful.
Anyway, that’s about all I know about these standin’ foo-shuhs. Hope it helps ya. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go water my tomatoes. They ain’t fancy, but they sure do taste good.
