Okay, so winter’s coming, and last year I totally killed my back shoveling snow. I’m not getting any younger, you know? So, I figured it was time to invest in a decent snow plow shovel. I’ve seen those ergonomic ones and thought, “Yeah, that’s gotta be better than the old, straight-handled thing I’ve been using.”
Started with Some Basic Research
First, I just poked around, you know, seeing what kinds of snow plow shovels were even out there. I realized there are a TON of options. Different blade materials, handle shapes, sizes… it was a little overwhelming, to be honest.
Narrowing Down My Choices
I knew I wanted something that wouldn’t rust easily, so I looked at shovels with aluminum or plastic blades. Metal seemed heavy-duty, but I also worried about it being, well, heavy. The ergonomic handles were definitely a must-have. I saw some with a sort of S-curve and others with a double handle. I figured the double handle might give me more leverage.
Actually Trying Them Out
So, I went down to the local hardware store. It’s kind of funny, standing there in the aisle, pretending to shovel snow in the middle of fall, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I grabbed a few different models and just tried to get a feel for them.
- First one: Too heavy! The blade was huge, and I could already feel my back aching just holding it.
- Second one: The handle felt weird. The S-curve was too pronounced, and it just didn’t feel natural.
- Third one: This one felt pretty good! It had a plastic blade, so it was lightweight, and the double handle seemed like it would give me good control.
Making the purchase
I decided to get the third one, also pick up some de-icer while I was there. Can not forget the de-icer.
Putting It to the Test (Eventually!)
Of course, now I have to wait for it to actually snow! But I’m feeling pretty good about my choice. I’ll update this once I’ve had a chance to really use it in a proper snowstorm. Fingers crossed it makes a difference this winter!
