Okay, so I’ve been having this spider problem in my house for a while now. I’m not talking about one or two cute little spiders, I mean like, a serious infestation. They were everywhere! In the corners, in the closets, even in my bed once! I was freaking out, and I knew I had to do something about it.
First, I did some googling to figure out what kind of spiders I was dealing with. Turns out, they were just common house spiders, nothing too dangerous, but still, yuck. Then I started looking for the best way to get rid of them. I read a bunch of articles and watched a few videos, and there are so many options out there! Some people say to use natural stuff like essential oils, others recommend chemical sprays, and there are even these things called spider traps.

I decided to start with the natural stuff first. I mixed up some peppermint oil with water in a spray bottle and went around spraying all the areas where I saw spiders hanging out. I also put some lavender sachets in my closets and drawers. Honestly, I don’t think it did much. The spiders were still there, chilling like they owned the place.
Next, I tried some over-the-counter spider sprays. I got this one called “Miss Muffet’s Revenge” that seemed pretty popular online. The label said it had cyfluthrin and was supposed to create some kind of barrier. I sprayed it around the perimeter of my house, and in all the nooks and crannies inside. It definitely killed some spiders, but I kept seeing new ones popping up.
I was getting pretty frustrated at this point. It felt like I was fighting a losing battle. But I was determined, so I kept researching. I found out that there are these things called insecticide dusts that are supposed to be really effective. They’re like a fine powder that you can puff into cracks and crevices where spiders like to hide. I saw some names like “Cimexa” and “Tempo” and “DeltaDust.” Seemed a little hardcore, but I was desperate.
Before I went the dust route, though, I figured I’d give one last natural thing a try. I read that spiders hate strong smells like citrus and eucalyptus. So I bought a bunch of lemons and limes, cut them up, and put them all over the place. I also got some eucalyptus oil and used it like the peppermint oil, spraying it around. It did make the house smell pretty nice!
And guess what? It actually seemed to work! I haven’t seen a single spider in a week now. I’m not sure if it was the citrus, the eucalyptus, or maybe just a combination of everything I tried, but I’m so relieved. I’m going to keep up with the lemon and eucalyptus routine for a while, just to be safe.
- Started with: Peppermint oil spray and lavender sachets.
- Then tried: “Miss Muffet’s Revenge” spider spray (cyfluthrin).
- Considered: Insecticide dusts like Cimexa, Tempo, or DeltaDust.
- Finally: Lemon, lime, and eucalyptus oil.
My Takeaway
Spiders are stubborn little things, but they can be beat! It might take some trial and error, but don’t give up. Also, strong smells like citrus and eucalyptus might be your secret weapon!
