Today, I decided to add some greenery to my place, and I went with some medium-sized house plants. I’ve heard they’re pretty chill to take care of, so I figured, why not give it a shot?
First things first, I needed to pick out the plants. I hit up the local plant shop and wandered around, I saw lots of them. Oh man, there were so many options! I finally settled on a few that caught my eye: a Snake Plant, a ZZ Plant, and a cute little String of Hearts. They looked cool, and I’d read somewhere that they’re not too fussy.

Getting them home and settled in was the next step. I made sure to grab some decent-sized pots and some potting mix while I was at the store. Once I got back, I carefully took each plant out of its nursery pot and placed it into its new home. It was a bit messy, but I just filled in around the roots with the new soil, making sure not to pack it too tight.
Watering these guys seemed pretty straightforward.
- For the Snake Plant and ZZ, I learned they don’t need much water at all.
- So, I just gave them a little drink, making sure the water drained out the bottom. I’ll probably only water them like once every few weeks.
- The String of Hearts is a bit different. It likes the soil to dry out a bit between waterings too, but not as much as the others.
I placed them all in different spots around my apartment where they get some light, but not direct sunlight all day. From what I understand, these plants are pretty flexible with their lighting needs. I chose to put the ZZ Plant in a corner that doesn’t get much light, the Snake Plant on a shelf with indirect light, and hung the String of Hearts near a window where it gets bright, indirect light.
Now, it’s just a waiting game. I’ll keep an eye on them, see how they do. Hopefully, I won’t kill them! I’m actually pretty excited to see them grow and make my place feel more alive. It’s like having little green roommates that don’t talk back.
Fingers crossed, I’ll be able to keep these plants happy and healthy. If I can manage that, maybe I’ll even add a few more to my collection. Who knows, I might actually develop a green thumb! It feels good to have a bit of nature indoors, especially since I spend so much time at home. Plus, it’s a nice change of pace from staring at screens all day.
