Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with some copper tools in my garden lately, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the experience. I’d heard some good things about them but wasn’t really sure what to expect. So I thought why not just dive in and try?
First off, I ordered a few basic copper pieces online. I’m talking about a trowel, a hand fork, and some pruning shears. I figured those would cover most of my everyday gardening needs. I did not do too much research about brand, as my opinion, garden tools are mostly a matter of personal preference. I mean those famous brand such as Bulldog, Spear and Jackson, Burgon and Ball are good, but too expensive for me. Then when they arrived, I was pretty impressed by how they looked. They’ve got this warm, shiny look that just feels… different from my old steel tools.

The first thing I did was try out the trowel. I was planting some new flower seedlings, and let me tell you, digging into the soil felt different. It’s hard to explain, but the copper just seemed to glide through the dirt more easily. I’ve heard it said that copper reduces friction, and while I’m no scientist, I can say it definitely felt smoother. Plus, the soil didn’t stick to it as much, which was a nice bonus.
Next, I moved on to the hand fork. I used it to loosen up the soil around some of my plants that needed a bit of aerating. Again, it felt great. The fork tines were sharp and penetrated the soil effortlessly. I could work around the roots without feeling like I was going to damage them. Oh and they are so easy to clean, just a gentle brush or wipe will usually do. They are really user friendly.
Then came the pruning shears. Now, I’ve always struggled a bit with pruning. My old shears were getting dull, and it was always a bit of a wrestling match to get a clean cut. But these copper shears? They sliced through the branches like butter. Seriously, it was almost too easy. I even managed to shape up my rose bushes without feeling like I was hacking away at them.
But it wasn’t just about how they performed. There’s something about using copper tools that just feels… right. I don’t know if it’s the weight, the balance, or just the fact that they’re made of a natural material, but I found myself actually enjoying my time in the garden more. It felt more connected, more hands-on.
I also did a bit of reading about copper, and apparently, it has some natural properties that can benefit the soil. Some people say it helps with water retention, which would make sense since I haven’t been needing to water as often. And it’s naturally rust-proof, so I don’t have to worry about them deteriorating over time. I did not know that ancient peoples made various tools out of copper, such as copper axes!
My Copper Tools
- Trowel: Perfect for digging small holes and planting seedlings.
- Hand Fork: Great for loosening soil and aerating around plants.
- Pruning Shears: Ideal for cutting through branches and shaping plants.
So, yeah, I’m pretty sold on these copper tools. They’re not just pretty to look at; they actually make a difference in how I garden. If you’re thinking about trying them out, I’d say go for it. You might just be surprised at how much of a difference they make. They might be a bit pricier than your standard steel tools, but in my opinion, they’re worth the investment. They might just turn your gardening chores into something you actually look forward to. I know they have for me!
