Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my begonias lately, trying to figure out the best temperature for them. I’m no expert, but I’ve got a few different types, and I wanted to share what I’ve learned so far.
My Begonia Growing Journey
First off, I started by grabbing a bunch of different begonias – some Rex begonias, some wax begonias, you know, a little mix of everything. I figured the best way to learn was to just jump in and try things out.

I set up a little area in my sunroom. It gets decent light, but it’s not direct, scorching sunlight, which I read was bad for begonias. Then came the temperature part.
- I bought a couple of cheap thermometers, the kind you stick in the soil, and a regular room thermometer, too.
- I started tracking the temperature throughout the day. It was fluctuating quite a bit, especially with the sun coming in and then going behind clouds.
At first, I was kind of all over the place. Some days the room would get up to like 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and other days it would dip down to 60. My poor begonias were probably confused!
I noticed the Rex begonias, with their fancy leaves, were not loving the hotter days. They started to look a little droopy and sad. The wax begonias, though, they seemed tougher. They didn’t seem to mind the temperature swings as much.
So, I did some more digging, I found that, and most people are recommaned keep begonias ideally like between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. I started experimenting to get to that points.
I moved some of the begonias around, putting the Rex begonias in a slightly shadier, cooler spot. I also started opening a window in the evenings to let in some cooler air, but making sure to close it before it got too cold at night.
The Result
After a few weeks of fiddling, I think I’ve gotten it pretty dialed in. The room stays mostly in that 65-75 range now.
And you know what? The begonias are looking much happier!

The Rex begonias have perked up, and the wax begonias are blooming like crazy.
It’s definitely a learning process, and I’m sure I’ll keep tweaking things.
But for now, I’m pretty happy with how my begonias are doing, and it seems like keeping them in that sweet spot temperature-wise is really making a difference!
