So, I got these Barebones Garden Scissors the other day. Thought I’d share my experience with y’all.
First off, I started looking around for some good scissors that could do a bit of everything in the garden. I saw these Barebones ones pop up a few times, even in some fancy magazines like Dwell. Figured they must be decent, right?

I ordered a pair, the large size ones with walnut handles. They arrived pretty quick. I unboxed them and, man, they felt solid. Nice weight to them, you know? The handles are wide, which is great cause my hands are a bit bigger. They fit really comfortably.
Next, I took them out to the garden to test them out. I started with some deadheading. These scissors sliced right through the flower stems like butter. No snagging or crushing, just clean cuts. It was really easy to get precise cuts, even in those tight spots.
After that, I moved on to some veggie harvesting. I used them to snip off some peppers and cucumbers. Again, super smooth. The blades are sharp, so it was no trouble at all to get through those thicker stems.
Then I thought, let’s see how they do with something tougher. I had some shrubs that needed pruning, with branches up to, like, an inch thick. I grabbed these scissors and started cutting. Surprisingly, they handled it pretty well! I mean, it’s not like using those big loppers, but for these smaller branches, the scissors did the job. I just had to put a bit more muscle into it, but they cut through eventually.
I’ve also used them for cutting twine and some of those plastic plant ties. No problem there either. They even worked okay for cutting through some thin cardboard boxes I was using for mulch.
So, here’s the deal after using them for a while:
- Pros:
- They’re sharp and cut cleanly.
- The wide handles are super comfortable.
- They feel really durable.
- They can handle a variety of tasks, from delicate flowers to tougher branches.
- Cons:
- They might struggle with really thick branches, but that’s expected.
- They’re a bit pricier than your average scissors, but I think they’re worth it for the quality.
Overall
I’m pretty happy with these Barebones Garden Scissors. They’ve made my gardening chores a lot easier and more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a good, all-around pair of garden scissors, I’d definitely recommend giving these a try.
