Alright folks, let’s talk about my Angelique flowers. Seriously, these beauties caught my eye last month – those delicate white petals, you know? So I grabbed a pot. Looked easy enough. Famous last words, right?
The Initial ‘Oops’ Phase
Got ’em home, plonked the pot right by the sunny window. Seemed like a good idea. Watered them generously, almost daily. Felt like I was doing everything right. Wrong move. Within a week? Leaves started looking a bit sad, kinda yellow around the edges. Uh oh. New blooms? Barely any. Total letdown.

So I did what anyone would do. Googled like crazy. Turns out Angeliques aren’t sunbathers. Who knew? And watering? I was drowning the poor things.
Actually Trying to Figure It Out
Okay, time for adjustments. First things first: moved them out of that solar death ray window. Found a spot that gets bright light, like super bright, but only for maybe 4 hours max – late afternoon sun, mostly indirect the rest of the time. Big difference already.
Then the watering. Stopped the daily showers. Stuck my finger in the dirt – like, actually knuckle-deep. If the top inch felt dry? Okay, now I watered. And not just a splash. I gave a good, deep drink until water actually ran out the bottom holes. Let it drain completely. None of that soggy pot nonsense.
The Little Things That Actually Worked
Feeding them. Honestly? I forgot at first. Now? Every couple of weeks, about half strength of some basic liquid bloom fertilizer. Just mix it in when I water. Easy. Saw new buds popping up shortly after starting this.
Deadheading. Sounds fancy, but it’s just pinching off the dead flowers. Don’t be lazy! I started carefully snipping off the spent blooms right at the stem where they meet the main plant. Boom! Energy goes to new buds instead of trying to save the goners.
Where We Stand Now
Honestly, not perfect. But man, so much better. The constant battle:
- Location is king: That bright, but limited direct sun spot? Non-negotiable.
- Thirsty? Check the dirt first: Finger test, never fails. Deep water, let drain.
- Little snacks sometimes: Half-strength fertilizer, regularly.
- Tidy up: Snip the deadheads, get more flowers.
Results? Instead of wilting after a week, my first batch of blooms lasted nearly three weeks. New buds keep forming. Still have to pinch off the odd yellow leaf (hey, it happens), but overall? Plant looks healthy. Greener leaves, more flowers than I expected. It’s work, but totally doable once you get the hang of what these fussy divas actually want. Mostly, less is more with water and sun!
